December 12, 2010:

Starting from an email link  posted by a WOR colleague, I have added a page featuring YouTube videos made by men about their experience as survivors.  Some are jarring and you might want to read the comments below the video itself to get oriented first.  This area of media presence has taken off in the last year.  Access my list through FILM / BOOKS in the menu above.

November 12th, 2010:

PART 2    Unfortunately the access link for this broadcast was online only briefly -about a week- and then removed from Oprah’s site and disabled, for reasons unknown.  The program featured a longer discussion with D. Howard Fradkin and others.

November 5th, 2010:

PART 1     Oprah Winfrey broadcasts the first of two programs on Male Survivors of sexual abuse.  This broadcast focuses on the stories of twins abused for years by priests and of a man abused repeatedly by his father.  It concludes with comments by Dr. Howard Fradkin co-director of Male Survivor’s Weekends of Recovery.  This program can be seen here online in its entirety without commercial interruptions.

Further stories from this event, are available online here.

Tyler Perry tells Oprah his story of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his father and of sexual abuse outside the family which this mistreatment left him vulnerable to.  He movingly describes the way in which he lost himself as a child and gives an unusually public view into the dissociation that protected him.  Here are glimpses of the episode, and the text of Perry’s story.
